JACK WELLS-MORRISON is really happy to be putting down roots in Ruislip, after signing a permanent deal ahead of a third spell with the Stones.
"I had a few offers in this division and a couple a little higher, but I knew the style of play suited me here from before and Wealdstone is a really solid option at this level," smiled the midfielder, after penning his contract.
Released by Crystal Palace in summer 2025, an injury during pre-season with offers from clubs readying meant his next competitive football arrived just before Christmas time - north of the border courtesy of a short-term deal with Ross County, based in the Scottish Highlands town of Dingwall.
"It was a weird time for me," the midfielder told wealdstonefc.com. "You really don't want to be getting injured when you don't have a club. But then, at the other end of it, I got to play at Wembley Stadium!"
So he experienced a real mix of highs and lows last term. Yet it was to be that solid loan spell he'd had at The Vale - on loan from the Eagles during the first half of season 2024/25 - which would pay dividends. Early 2026 saw Wealdstone snap up the 22-year-old under an agreement until the summer.
Added Wells-Morrison: "It was a great experience for me up in Scotland, and I was able to bring back the enjoyment of being around a first-team environment with me to familiar surroundings.
"The gaffer here gives you a freedom to play and it's something all the players appreciate. The last ten or so games of last season were really enjoyable - and definitely played a big part in me coming back here now."
Loyal Stones' fans can tell you why it's Wealdstone for them. But what of a player who's been here for a couple of previous spells. Why Wealdstone?
"There's a feeling around the club that everyone's really together, quite close as a group across the club - and I've realised that you don't get that automatically at clubs," explained the playmaker, who's had one other stint in the Enterprise National League; at Solihull Moors during the second part of 2024/25.
"I was involved in and I saw some special moments here at The Vale. No one is going to forget that Marine [FA Trophy semi-final] winner in a hurry.
"That's the stuff that brings fans back again and again - and how last season ended so positively for me played a big part in this getting done."
