International round-up

It’s been a busy week once again for our Wealdstone internationals with three Stones players heading off for national team duty with their respective countries.

As ever, record cap holder Alex Dyer was called up to the Montserrat national team whilst academy strikers, and brothers, Jaiden and Kai Bartolo were called up to the Gibraltar U21s and U17s respectively.

Making it 28 caps for Montserrat, Dyer featured for 90 minutes on Monday as his side beat Barbados 4-2 in the CONCACAF Nations League, meaning that the Emerald Boys finished third in League B Group B, one point behind the Dominican Republic in second place.

Having featured for Gibraltar U19s last month, Jaiden Bartolo’s impressive performances of late saw him called up to the U21s this time around for their UEFA Under-21 Euro Championship qualifiers.

The exciting forward came off the bench in his side’s narrow 1-0 defeat to the Netherlands, where he was up against the likes of Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen and a whole host of talent from some top clubs.

A few days he later, he made another appearance from the bench as Gibraltar U21s beat Moldova in a historic 2-1 victory, in their first ever away win and only their second victory since forming their U21s side in 2016.

For the U17s, Kai Bartolo played back-to-back 90 minutes as his side were defeated by Belgium and Wales in their UEFA Under-17 Euro Championship qualifiers.
