BIG INTERVIEW: 'Student Opportunities Key To Wealdstone Partnership' - Brunel University's Prof. Geoff Rodgers

FOR the first time since its inception in summer 2024, Wealdstone fans can hear directly from the strategic leadership team at Brunel University - the name across the front of club kit - about what the partnership means to them.

Speaking to the Stones' official YouTube channel, Brunel University Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Geoffrey Rodgers explains his hopes for a long-lasting and meaningful relationship to the benefit of those within both organisations.

"I think the club has a lot of ambition and a lot of potential," he said.

"It's a great catchment area round here with a lot of interest in the club and the leaders of the club have got a clear vision about what they want to achieve and where they want to go - so we're keen to be on that journey with you as there's benefits for us but also we're looking to support you."

And away from the aspirational and strategic thoughts, the partnership is already flourishing with first-team training, a Post-16 Academy programme and embedded interactions with the Brunel population on campus.

"It's great to have the [Wealdstone FC] team training with us, but also Wealdstone support our Student Union's teams - both for men's and women's football - and the students really appreciate that because it gives them some connection to the club as well," explained Rodgers of operational bonds which are strengthening all the time.

"Clearly you have aspirations of moving up the leagues - larger club, bigger crowds, greater profile of brand - and we would like to go on that journey with you.

Added Rodgers of his hopes for student opportunities as a key element of the partnership: "We're interested in strengthening our position as a sports institution; to grow our sports departments, our allied health departments. With all those things, a [relationship with] a football club can really help with that."
