Report - Slough Town 0 - 1 Wealdstone

Updated: Jan 14, 2019

After a very indifferent December Stones went into this game on New Year’s Day at the Arbour Stadium with a point to prove, and so it was courtesy of a Connor Stevens header at the start of the second-half to take the three points on offer.

The game started as expected with the home side on the front foot which saw efforts from Flood and Harris dealt with by the Stones rear guard, with North rarely troubled. With just 11 minutes on the clock referee Steven Hughes booked ‘Rebels’ Ben Harris following a nasty looking tackle on Hudson-Odoi. A few minutes later another ‘Rebel’ was cautioned.

Stones first real chance arrive at 20 minutes as Green crossed the ball low along the six yard box but there was no one on hand to apply the finishing touch. Almost immediately Monakana was played through on goal and the home keeper was quick to thwart the Stones player.

Stones were playing the better football against a some what 'flat' looking home side and further chances were created with Pratt in on a one-on-one but the home keeper stood tall to make the save and just before the break

Stones nearly bagged an OG as a cross from the right a defender and almost wrong footed the home keeper who reacted to get down low to clear the ball off the line.

HT 0 – 0

The home side had the first shot of the 2nd half which was comfortable dealt with by North. Stones immediately went up the other end and won a corner which was delivered on a plate for the an unmarked Stevens to plant a firm header past the Slough defence and statuesque home keeper to give the Stones the lead.

A matter of minutes later Stones had a golden opportunity to double the lead when Mensah crossed low and Pratt reacted quickest but his effort lacked sufficient pace.

The home side tried in vein to get back on terms but the Stones dug deep and ensured that their overall game management plan delivered the 3 points on offer

Wealdstone: North Shephard, Medford-Smith, Stevens, Okimo, Poku, Monakana, Mensah, Pratt, Green, Hudson-Odoi. Subs Kowalkowski, Lench (used), Wilson, Smith, Obi (unused).
