Hutchinson raring to go ahead of Boreham Wood double header

Dom Hutchinson hopes his teammates can take the encouraging signs from the gallant defeat Solihull Motors into the back-to-back games against Boreham Wood.

The Stones lost 2-1 to Neil Ardley's high-riding side on Tuesday night, but they bossed the second half and looked the more likely side to conjure up a winner before Joe Sbarra struck on 77 minutes.

“We dominated the ball in large spells,” Hutchinson said. "We had a couple of chances as well so it’s disappointing not to get at least a draw away from home, but we can take some positives from it.

"It gives us a lot of encouragement. We know we can go play away or at home, dominate the ball and be confident in possession. It’s now about keeping our clean sheets and taking our chances so we’ll be hoping to do that next week (against Boreham Wood) and in the FA Cup.”

Known up until the start of this season as a forward, the 20-year-old has been utilised as a wing-back by Stuart Maynard and has excelled in his new-found position. He showed fantastic defensive ability against Solihull, making a last-ditch block to deny the hosts a certain goal in the early stages, and also making two lung-busting runs down the right in the second half.

“I’m enjoying it (playing as a wing-back),” Hutchinson said. "It’s a lot more up and down, defending and attacking, but I’m a fit guy so I don’t mind it. I can get in behind and I can do the defensive side so you have to adapt your game to wherever the gaffer needs you.”

The former Watford youth player was signed by the Stones in the summer and has caught the eye with his energy. The tricky winger has featured in all 12 National League games for the Stones and will hope to continue his fine form when they face Boreham Wood on Saturday.

“I’m really enjoying it (at Wealdstone), I’m a local boy so it’s good to have my family and friends come to watch every week. I’ve known a lot of the boys for a while so I feel right at home.”
