Tarryn makes Tanzania debut
Wealdstone winger Tarryn Allarakhia made his first appearance for the Tanzanian national team on Sunday as they faced off against an Egypt side containing the likes of Liverpool’s Mo Salah.
The Wealdstone number seven came off the bench at half-time to make his first appearance for the Taifa Stars as they played Egypt in Cairo as a preparation fixture for the 2023 African Cup of Nations, which begins next week in Ivory Coast.
Tanzania were defeated 2-0 by the Pharaoh’s but put in a respectable performance against one of the favourites to win the competition.
The Taifa Stars begin their 2023 AFCON campaign on Wednesday 17th January when they face Morocco in the opening game of Group F at 5pm GMT.
Should there be a start for the Stones man at left-wing, it’s likely he’ll face a direct test against Paris Saint Germain’s right-back Achraf Hakimi, who is the star man in the Atlas Lions’ team.
Following the game against Morocco, Tanzania will face off against Zambia at 5pm GMT on Sunday 21st January, and will be hoping to gain three points before their final game of the group against DR Congo on 24th January at 8pm GMT.
You'll be able to watch Tarryn and his teammates on Sky Sports who will be broadcasting the entire competition on their Sky Sports Football and Sky Sports Mix channels, as well as streaming on NOW TV.
Everyone here at Wealdstone is extremely proud of Tarryn’s achievement and we wish him the best of luck at AFCON 2024!
