PREVIEW | Right mentality is key for Stones

Stuart Maynard hopes the Wealdstone fans help generate one of those special nights under the lights at The Vale when league leaders Grimsby come to town.

The Mariners are four points clear at the top of the National League after winning nine of their 12 games and Maynard knows the club are going to need to call on every available resource to get a result against Paul Hurst side.

"Tuesday nights are always good under the lights at The Vale," said the manager. "You get a bit of dew on the surface and it means you can move the ball quicker and slicker. We are going to need our fans. They were excellent at Weymouth and really got behind the team. We want that again on Tuesday and if we can create a hostile atmosphere, it will give us a real chance."

Dennon Lewis is pumped up for the first ever meeting between the two sides and believes the visitors, who will have players missing through Covid, can expect a searching examination of their title credentials.

"Grimsby are a good team, but we'll make it a dog fight," said the wide man. "We need to get stuck in as we've got nothing to lose. They are top of the table and it's a game we can win. They aren't going to expect us to be as good as we are and we can win it if we go in with the right mentality. "
