Preview - Chippenham Town (H) - 13th August

Six points from three games is a positive start to the new National League South campaign for Wealdstone, can they begin a winning run on Tuesday against Chippenham Town?

Dean Brennan’s Stones convincingly beat Braintree Town 4-0 on the weekend and have scored eight goals in the opening week of the season, the highest tally in the division.

Back at The Vale for the first time since the opening day, Chippenham Town will be the visitors. The Bluebirds have also had a strong start to the 2019/20 season.

Mark Collier’s Chippenham are undefeated after the first three games. Their most recent result was the most impressive, a 2-0 home win against Billericay Town last Saturday.

The win on Saturday was the first three points of the campaign for the Bluebirds, however, what’s even more impressive is that the Wiltshire-based outfit have only conceded one goal this season.

Familiar faces will be returning to The Vale on Tuesday evening for the away side, former Stones striker David Pratt and full-back Rhys Tyler, both part of last season’s play-off squad, will feature for Chippenham.

Chippenham Town have only netted three times this season, two of those occasions coming against Billericay in their previous fixture.

Only three goals this season, but it’s safe to say that Chippenham will bring attacking power. The Bluebirds retained pacey striker Nat Jarvis while adding Pratt and Chris Zebroski from Eastleigh this season.

Wealdstone will certainly bring some attacking prowess in midweek, striker Ross Lafayette scored two on the opening day and has been leading the line for the Stones this season.

Midfielders Danny Green and Billy Clifford are both tipped for big things this season, they both opened their goals tally at Braintree on Saturday.

The Stones also recently signed striker Phil Roberts last week, adding a different element to Dean Brennan’s offensive personnel.

Dean Brennan mentioned Chippenham after Saturday’s win at Braintree: “We know how hard Chippenham work, [they are a] really industrial side.”

Stones winger Dennon Lewis has impressed in his three appearances this season. He lasted an hour on Saturday on his first start before being substituted, fitness will tell if he will start again on Tuesday.

Goalkeeper Jonathan North and striker Dejon Noel-Williams are getting closer to being available for selection, they will still be a doubt to return against Chippenham Town.

Wealdstone left-back Ryan Sellers is yet to make his first appearance this season due to injury, he remains out for this fixture.

Two wins from three for the Stones, can Dean Brennan’s men make it three wins from four on Tuesday evening?
