Stones on the Road – Thamesmead Town Sat 15th Feb – Match Preview

Game ON – following a 09:30 pitch inspection this morning our RPL game at Thamesmead Town goes ahead as planned  kick-off 3.00pm.

Wealdstone travel across the capital this weekend to take on strugglers Thamesmead Town at Bayliss Avenue.  The Stones will have been action-less for eleven days, after last weekend’s league postponement and the cancellation of their midweek Middlesex Senior Cup match, and are as raring for a return to action as their supporters.

After promotion last season, Thamesmead find themselves in a relegation battle this campaign, sitting just once place and two points above the play-offs, with three of the teams below them having at least four games in hand.

Gordon Bartlett’s side currently sit eight points off the Ryman Premier League summit, but they do have five games in hand. Last time out they played out a 1-1 draw away to Lowestoft Town, meaning they’ve suffered defeat just twice in their last fifteen games. After two consecutive wins, things had started to look up for The Mead, but three subsequent defeats on the bounce have ensured they remain to flirt dangerously with the prospect of relegation. Despite an impressive performance, this weekend’s hosts were beaten 2-0 at league leaders Dulwich Hamlet on Tuesday.

With just three games played since the turn of the year, it’s been a hugely frustrating six weeks for The Stones. If the weather holds off this weekend however, they have a great opportunity to return to winning ways, and with three home games on the horizon, have the chance to get back to their pre-Christmas form.
