Stones Youth team off to a flyer
Stanmore College’s Wealdstone FC youth team got off to a great start in their first game of the season on Wednesday 11th September at the Wealdstone first team football pitch in Ruislip. The Middlesex County Cup and ESFA champions played against Thamesmead Town.
Wealdstone started the game in good spirits and had many occasions where they should have put the ball through the net, but failed to take the lead due to defensive errors, it was Thamesmead who scored first. However, Wealdstone did not take long to recover and get back into the game with Tom Rivet equalising. It wasn’t long before Wealdstone took the lead with Marsell Bascombe making it 2-1 just before half time.
The second half was just as eventful as the first, with Thamesmead coming back fighting. They managed to score once more before three more goals from the Wealdstone boys, Ivan Costa, Connor Lee and Alin Bidi. Although Thamesmead created their fair share of chances throughout the game, they were unable to get themselves back into the match and the game ended 5-2 to Wealdstone.
Wealdstone team Manager, James Duncan was thrilled with the result and said, ‘although the team made some defensive mistakes, it is something we can work on. It is a great result for the team, and we are hoping for a repeat of last season’s wins’.
The team’s next fixture is an away game for the FA youth cup on Thursday, 26th September (7.45pm kick off) against V Wingate and Finchley FC, Harry Abraham Stadium, Summers Lane, N12 0PD.
