FA Cup Preview: Wealdstone v Biggleswade Town: Saturday 8 Sep, The Vale, 3pm kick-off
Wealdstone enter the FA Cup in the first qualifying round on Saturday and the stage is set for a classic Cup encounter with Biggleswade Town from the Evo-Stick Southern Football League, Division One Central, where league standings count for nothing.
Stones will have long put behind them the memories of the Cup exit at the same stage last season to Beaconsfield SYCOB who are from the same league as The Waders. Nonetheless they will have fully taken on board the harsh realities of that debacle and the lessons learnt that ultimately galvanised the whole club and spurred the Stones on to magnificent FA Trophy success.
So absolutely no one at Wealdstone will be taking anything for granted with this Cup clash and Stones will be well aware of The Waders excellent playing record this campaign. Biggleswade started this season with virtually a completely new team – a total of eleven new players were signed in the summer but they have gelled rapidly under manager Chris Nunn.
The Waders side have an experienced side and several members of their squad have performed at a higher level of football, and with striker Joel Mason they possess a real goal threat; they will be expected to make a very strong challenge for honours come the end of the season.
Stones will welcome back centre half Sean Cronin from suspension and will be available for selection on Saturday. Midfielder Alex Dyer will face further fitness tests this week following his groin injury that has kept him out for the past three weeks.
Please note that this match is all pay. The pro club half-price season ticket offer WILL apply for this match on production of a current Season Ticket.
