FA Carlsberg Trophy 3rd Qualifying Round Preview – Stones v Corby Town

Wealdstone find themselves back in the thick of FA Trophy action on Saturday, 10th Nov when they take on Corby Town of the Blue Square Bet North, kick-off 3pm at The Vale.

In another intriguing tie in a competition where they have enjoyed so much success in recent seasons – almost always against all the odds – Stones will again be cast in the role they relish: that of the underdog.

Rapidly improving Corby will undoubtedly be tough opponents featuring a prolific attack. They have recently beaten Histon and Gloucester City back to back in the league scoring seven goals in the process – wins that have pushed them up the table following an indifferent start to the current campaign. In striker Josh Moreman the Steelmen have a dangerous front man who was named Blue Square Bet North player of the month for October. They also feature forward Greg Kaziboni and former Peterborough United winger Ryan Semple.  Carl Piergianni is not available, as he is serving a three match ban following the sending off against Hendon in the FA Cup.

But a resilient Stones will be hoping to exploit Corby’s relatively poor defensive record to add to their tally of 21 goals in their last 5 games with ace Richard Jolly and Alex Dyer finding the net regularly alongside Peter Dean. Nathan Webb will not be available for this match due to suspension.  Stones rising attendances are comparable with the higher placed Corby who play at the very impressive Steel Park facility and it is to be hoped that another bumper crowd will be at a boisterous Vale on Saturday to witness a Trophy classic.

The winners of this tie will receive £4,000 from The FA’s prize fund.
