Stones sign striker from Watford FC

Gavin Massey has signed on loan from Championship side Watford FC where he is a first team squad player. The 18 year old striker will be available for the vital Tonbridge Angels Ryman Premier match at The Vale on Monday evening.

Stones Manager Gordon Bartlett said: ‘ We have an excellent relationship with Watford and I am very pleased to bring Gavin in. All of our loan forwards have returned to their parent clubs or moved on in quick succession and now we have a further problem in that Joe Benjamin was injured in the Sutton game’

Massey began his career with his hometown club, Watford and was one of the first players to progress through their Harefield Academy, Massey made his first team debut for the Hornets on 2 May 2010, replacing Danny Graham 85 minutes into a 4-0 win over Coventry City at the Ricoh Arena. He signed his first professional two year contract later that month. He stayed with the Championship club despite interest
from Premier League giants Liverpool. He progressed in the 2010–11 season, playing regularly for the reserves and youth team, as well as making further substitute appearances in the first team. Gavin is top scorer for the Hornets Academy side this season and has already made a total of 5 substitute appearances for the first team so far.

This signing is another in a long line of young Hornets players who have undoubtedly benefited from playing competitive football for Wealdstone and the club is very grateful to Malky McKay and his staff for the opportunity to take Gavin for this loan arrangement.

Previous young Hornets players that have all had successful loan spells at Wealdstone include Theo Robinson, Liam Henderson, Dale Bennett and Marvin Sordell – all of them going on to progress in professional football
