Non-League Day a big success for Stones
Wealdstone took part in the first national ‘Non League Day’ last Saturday when they played Bury Town at the St Georges Stadium in a Ryman League Premier Division match.
With no Premiership or Championship matches being played due to International games being staged over last weekend, the idea was to encourage fans of clubs at the higher level to take the opportunity to watch a local game. Stones had a special promotion for the event to encourage season ticket holders of London based Premiership and Championship sides with the offer of 50% off the normal match day admission price.
Wealdstone FC Chairman Howard Krais said: ‘For us, Non League Day turned out to be a great success and it was very encouraging to have a significant increase to our normal expected attendance for a Saturday match. When you take into account that our visitors, Bury Town, brought very few travelling supporters we estimate we had 100 new people through the gate. We hope that they enjoyed the experience and will come back again – our season ticket promotion will continue to run throughout the season.
‘Wealdstone supporters worked hard to promote the game via forums, twitter and various websites but all the effort paid off and we are grateful to the people that thought up the idea of Non League Day.’
