Stones at the Vale for tough League Opener
The Ryman Football League published it’s fixtures today, Tuesday 15th July, 2008.
Wealdstone will play at their new home at Grosvenor Vale on the opening day of the 2008/9 Ryman League Premier Division campaign on Saturday 16 August when they will entertain Tonbridge Angels. That fixture will be followed by a midweek trip to Ashford Town (Middx) on Tuesday 19 August. Wealdstone Manager said of the opener: ‘It’s certainly a very tough opener and not one that I would have wanted but it’s good to be at our new home for the first League match and hopefully we’ll have a decent sized crowd behind us’
Stones will travel to newly promoted Dartford FC at their new Princes Park home on Saturday 30 August; other notable fixtures include the visit from former Conference side Dover at the Vale on Saturday 22 November. Relegated Sutton United will be the visitors to the Vale on Tuesday 2 September.
The eagerly awaited clash with local Ryman Premier rivals Harrow Borough will be fought out on Saturday 27 December at the Vale with the return fixture being played at Earlsmead on Easter Monday, 13 April 2009. Meanwhile Stones Manager Gordon Bartlett continues to be very pleased with pre season training and particularly the hard work being put in by the squad youngsters. Said Bartlett: ‘We have been delighted with the young players and again the Stanmore connection is working well – youngsters such as Nick Salapatas, John Sonuga and Derek Quaye and Dan Carr have really impressed in training’
Former player Gary Burrell has been training with the squad but no decision has been made with regard to him signing.
