FA Youth Cup Success
The FA Youth Cup is the highlight for all the lads on the Stanmore/Wealdstone Football Scholarship so the team that went to this game would have been the best team in the college. Nerves and anticipation were at a high level and considering the lads have only been back at college for just 3 days, they did exceptionally well. The new lads and old lads are still getting to know each other and the way they play football, so there was a lot of experimentation with passes and set plays. As you can imagine it took a while for the lads to gel together.
Our first goal came from a great cross by Ade Kelani that found Daniel Lake waiting at the back post to head it in. Our second goal was scored by David Hubbard. The score at half time was 0-2 to Wealdstone. A combination of poor service from the opposition and a solid defence from Wealdstone stopped Welling scoring.
We got an early goal from Jamie O'Connell in the second half which took us 0-3 up, Our young goalkeeper Sam Leggett made a couple of great saves to almost keep a clean sheet. Our fourth goal was another from David Hubbard. With 20 minutes left Welling managed to pull back a goal but the lads looked comfortable till the end.
We won convincingly which takes us to the next round away to Cockfosters on the 25th September 2008 7.45pm KO.
Well done lads.
