Appointment of General Manager

The Club are pleased to announce that current Press Officer Nick DuGard has been appointed to the new role of General Manager with effect from 9th January 2017.

With the increasing demands of operating at National League level it is necessary for the club, as an efficient business, to fully co-ordinate and continuously develop off-the-field activities and to deliver new revenue streams and planned projects.

The General Manager position will be broad ranging and Nick will be forming an operational team that will support his role in co-ordinating, supporting and developing a wide range of key areas that will include project fundraising, events, commercial activities, marketing and Social Media, Press and Public Relations.

Recently retired from his career outside of football, Nick is a former director and Vice-Chairman of Wealdstone FC and has a wealth of business experience including people management, marketing and sales and, of course working within semi-professional football over 30 years and in a large number of different roles up to board level. Nick is currently President of Wealdstone FC Supporters’ Club.

The General Manager will report into the Board of Directors and Wealdstone FC Chairman Peter Marsden.

Peter Marsden said: “In my short-time as chairman it has become apparent to me, and I know the rest of the Board feel likewise, that we need somebody at the club with proven organisational skills to help co-ordinate things.

‘The club has a lot of very good people, many of whom are volunteers, all doing their bit but it needs somebody to make sure all this energy is being harnessed and utilised as efficiently as possible.  ‘Nick who is recently semi-retired has a good business brain and is likeable and articulate. Most importantly he has a ‘can do’ attitude. Nick has been involved in the club for very many years (most recently as president of the supporters’ club and also the club’s PR Officer) and is Wealdstone through and through as indeed are so many good people involved at the club. ‘The General Manager role will initially be in the current parlance ‘part-time plus’ but as the club progresses on and off the pitch I have this hunch that it will not be long before Nick is full-time as befitting all of our aspirations to take our fine old club back where it belongs in the top flight of the National League”

Nick DuGard said: “I am delighted to be given this opportunity with the new impetus and developments at the club, and to work more closely in a broader capacity with Peter Marsden, the board, all sections of the club, and, more importantly, with the fans. I understand the increasing business and operational challenges that we face and that we must work hard to continue to develop our progress as a club and to realise our ambitions.”
