Wealdstone FC are National League Walking Football Champions !

20160814_National_League_Walking_Cup_winnersWealdstone Wanderers, the Stones Walking Football team, won the inaugural National League Trust tournament at Wembley Stadium, beating Dagenham and Redbridge on penalties in the final on Sunday.

Progress through the group was straightforward for Wealdstone as they steamrolled teams, beating Weston Super Mare (8-1), Margate (2s) (9-0), Brackley Town (5-0) and Stockport County Yellows (5-0). Ronnie Welch and Stephan Hope were particularly prolific up front for Stones.

In the semi-finals, Stones beat Margate (1s) 5-2 to progress through to the final against the National League new boys. The final was more cagey than the other games unsurprisingly, but Stones went two up, including an audacious back-heel by Welch, and were seemingly cruising to the title until an injury to David Holden at the back unbalanced the side, with the team losing its shape. Daggers scored two late goals to take the final to penalties.

Wealdstone’s spot kicks were deadly, though, with Welch and Hope scoring, whilst Rawal sprung to action to save both penalties he faced as Stones ran out 2-0 deserved winners.

Our thanks to the National League Trust for organising the event, sponsored by  SIS pitches.
