Wealdstone Ladies News

Back to winning ways for Wealdstone Ladies First XI on Sunday when they recorded a 5-2 win versus Clapham United. With a large number of the first team players out through injury and various other reasons. Five Under 18s stepped up to the plate. With Clapham a point ahead in the table and The First Team having lost their last two league games (something they had not done for the last three seasons). So on paper, this tie looked a potential banana skin.

This new look Stones side needed to start the game well to take advantage of Clapham, who only fielded ten players, as two were stuck in traffic. Right from kickoff the Stones looked lively, kick up the slope, tackling and passing the ball well. With only six minutes on the clock, Murphy crossed the ball into the box, right at Daniella Forde’s feet who skipped round two Clapham defenders and hit the ball into the back of the net. 1-0 to the Stones.

Murphy was beginning to cause Clapham problems down their right, pumping balls into the box, with plenty of chances going begging. The same could be said for Clapham who had Simone Wan doing the same down our right wing. Up steps Daniella again who doubled The Stone’s lead and made it look simple.

Wealdstone players began to think this could be easy, and with some sloppy passing, and by giving the ball away let Clapham back into the game when Hannah Martin pulled one back on twenty two minutes. Time for The Stones to refocus, with Chloe Jarman orchestrating the play from midfield, Storm Burrows working hard with Daniella and Rosie Watts began to get Wealdstone back into the game. With Thirty five minutes gone Ocean Gregory restored the lead back to two with a well taken goal.

The two Clapham players who had been stuck in traffic arrived which meant that both sides were now at full strength, but not taking advantage of any chances they created. The first half finished with no further goals.

The second half started with Wealdstone hoping to take advantage by kicking down the slope and after twenty minutes play and some sublime passing between Storm and Sophie who then passed the ball to Danielle to slot the ball pass the keeper for her Hat-Trick and Wealdstone’s fourth.

With both teams failing to take advantage of chances at both ends, it was left up to Clapham’s Michelle Smiley to make her effort count as she volleyed the ball into the back of the net to pull one back. Wealdstone 4-2  The efforts of the hard working Rosie Watts was rewarded with a quite superb goal taking on three Clapham defenders before slotting the ball pass their keeper to make it 5-2.

It was a great team effort, especially by our U18s who fitted well into our side and will be a fantastic addition to our future reserves and first teams.

Well Done All Involved.

Wealdstone Reserves maintained their 100 percent League record and made  it three wins from three games with an emphatic 11-0 win over Enfield Town with goals from  Hewitt 7 (seven), Kern 2,  Cox & Hole

After struggling to put away numerous chances last week, The Stones strikers produced an impressive display of finishing, Annie Hewitt led the way with seven goals and there was a brace for Emma  Kern. Zoe Cox and Lauren Hole completed the scoring putting some hard

work on the training ground into practice. Hewitt’s goal scoring feat would normally have been enough to secure her the player of the

match award, but she would be first to acknowledge the hard work of Emma   Kern and Georgina Adams in The Stones midfield. These two were awarded joint players of the match, with harder tests to come in the League and Cup, the players are now looking fit and despite a few minor injuries the omens are good for the forthcoming games.
