Stones on the Road – Leiston – Sat 22nd Mar 14

In-form Wealdstone travel to Leiston this weekend as they embark on their second of three away trips in a week. The match in fact comes as the fourth in five out of six straight fixtures away from The Vale, but fortunately for manager Gordon Bartlett, home comforts haven’t been something his side have had to rely on this season.

The Stones have lost only once on the road in the league, and currently sit six points clear at the top of the Ryman Premier with four games in hand on their closest rival, and come into the game off the back of a hard-fought goalless draw at Hendon on Monday. A steady run of form has seen Leiston climb up the table in recent weeks, but lying twelve points off the play-off places at this stage of the season means any chances of promotion this campaign are possibly a bridge too far.

The Blues are now tenth, having avoided defeat in their last six outings, accumulating twelve points and conceding only three goals in that spell, the latest being a highly creditable 0-0 draw away to high-flying Bognor Regis Town last weekend. Saturday’s match sees these two sides meet for the third time this season, after victories for Wealdstone in both league (3-1 at home) and cup (3-0 away) clashes in late 2013.

Gordon Bartlett will be hoping to have some of his previously unavailable players back in contention for the clash, as well as young Millwall loanee Charlie Penny, as the Stones look to record a hat-trick of wins over their Suffolk opponents, with this encounter shows all the signs of being the toughest yet.
