Stones on the Road – Carshalton Athletic vs Wealdstone

Wealdstone travel to the London Borough of Sutton on Saturday where they’ll be looking to pick up another precious three points against strugglers Carshalton Athletic.  The Stones have won four of their last six in the Ryman Premier, and sitting four points off the top with an incredible five games in hand means they have every chance of promotion, if they continue to keep up their current from.

After last weekend’s trip to Margate fell foul to the weather, it will be almost two weeks since Gordon Bartlett’s side last league outing, a 3-0 win over local rivals Harrow Borough. Carshalton narrowly escaped relegation last season and they’d bite your hand off for a similar outcome this time around. With ten defeats in their last eleven league games and twelve points from safety, The Robins look destined for the drop.

They face the unenviable task of taming a rampant Wealdstone side this weekend, something they were unable to do when the teams last met in November, when Tom Pett, Elliot Godfrey and Scott McGleish all found the net in a 3-1 Stones victory. Athletic hosted Hendon at the War Memorial Sports Ground earlier this week, where a goal either side of the interval ensured they suffered a 2-0 defeat.

Wealdstone are hoping to have a fully fit squad to choose from for the clash, but will be keen to ensure they aren’t on the receiving end of one of the frequent shocks that this division loves to throw up, as promotion-chasers meet relegation-battlers on Saturday.
