Chappell & O’Leary on the move!!!

Two of Wealdstone’s stalwart players have decided that the time is right to move on and ply their trade at another club.

Following their recent near miss in the Ryman Premier Play-Off semi-final Stones defender Lee Chappell and midfielder Chris O’Leary have decided to transfer to St Albans City, managed by former Stones player James Gray.

Both players have been very popular at Wealdstone. Lee Chappell originally joined in 2005 and over two spells has made well over 350 appearances, whilst midfield enforcer Chris O’Leary has been a regular on the team sheet since joining from Uxbridge a year later in 2006.

Wealdstone Manager Gordon Bartlett said: ‘I am obviously disappointed to lose quality players like Lee and Chris and their influential characters will certainly be missed both on and off the pitch. They have optimised the spirit in the camp over recent seasons, which have seen Wealdstone reach two Cup Finals, two Play-Offs, First Round of the FA Cup and the semi-final of the FA Trophy but without actually winning anything. Both players feel the time is right to look for a new challenge and I totally understand their sentiments.  On behalf of everyone at the club, I thank them for their loyalty and commitment over the last few seasons and wish them all the best in their future careers.

Bartlett added: ‘Losing the play-off after playing so well was a painful finish to last season but we now have to look forward. We have made huge progress over the past few seasons with a real feel good factor around the football club. Standards and expectations have been set high and these departures will obviously give opportunities for other players to come into the squad and aim to improve on recent progress’.
