Wealdstone (U18’s) 6 – 1 Brentford (U18’s) – Match Report

On Wednesday 6th March Wealdstone played Brentford in the Jeff Ritson Senior Youth Cup Final at Enfield. The game started with a fast tempo with Brentford getting a corner in the first ten seconds. However their fast start was cut short when in the opening 5 minutes a over hit pass by Nathanial George somehow went under the Bees goalkeepers foot and in to an empty net. The Bees keeper didn’t seem to get over his mistake as minutes later he played an under hit pass which Ruszel pounced upon and then unselfishly squared the ball to Grant who tapped in from 5 yards out. Wealdstone continued to pile on the pressure and were quickly rewarded with a third goal. A lovely passing move which saw Nathanial George getting a second. Just after the half-hour mark it was 4-0 again a great passing move which ended with Goldson putting in the ball from 6 yards out.

After the break Brentford were getting the ball forward a lot quicker and were threatening the Wealdstone goal. However the Wealdstone back four were able to weather the storm and just before the hour mark it was 5-0. Nathanial George with a cool finish in to the bottom corner to complete his hat-trick. Just 2 minutes later it was 6 Grant getting his second of the night. Brentford were able to score a consolation goal late on. The thumping victory meant that Wealdstone are Jeff Riston Senior Youth Cup champions!

Wealdstone still have 2 more opportunities at silverware this season. On Tuesday 12th March they play in the national cup which will be played at Fleetwood Town FC and they also are looking to win their league. The outstanding result against Brentford may only be just the beginning of what could be an unforgettable season.
