Watford duo to stay at Stones for a further month

Watford FC’s Britt Assombalonga and Connor Smith have had their loan deal at Wealdstone extended for a further month.

Both youngsters have made a big impact since arriving from Vicarage Road towards the end of November and have rapidly become firm favorites with the Stones fans.

Young professional Assombalonga has already found the net eight times in his striking role for the Stones, whilst midfielder Smith has also been very influential for the Ryman Premier outfit, scoring twice. Both Hornets players will now be available to help Stones progress during an important and very busy period in the League and FA Trophy – the Ruislip based outfit take on Blue Square Premier side Barrow AFC in the 2nd round proper later this month.

Wealdstone Manager Gordon Bartlett said: ‘I am obviously delighted Watford have agreed to extend the loans for another month. Both lads have settled in well and helped us extend our run of just one defeat in the last nineteen matches and I’m sure this extension can only benefit all three parties. Young players always take time to adjust to the differences of the non league game but after this initial period, they now realise what is required and I think they will now make an even bigger impact with games coming thick and fast. Their great work ethic has made them a hit with fans and players alike and I’m sure scoring goals and the positive results has helped them play with a smile on their face. We have seen their confidence grow game by game and similar to Marvin Sordell and Theo Robinson, I hope this experience with us, will go a long way to helping them achieve their longer term goal of first team football with the Hornets.’
