Barnet Ladies14 – 0 Wealdstone Ladies
The Stones Girls finally met their match on Sunday, with a MCFA Junior Cup 2nd Round game against Barnet at Wealdstone’s spiritual home of the Prince Edward Playing Fields . Being a “ladies” team, Barnet’s players were older, more experienced and moved quicker on the ball at all times.
Wealdstone had a few attempts on goal with good efforts by Rosie Watts and Nicola Dixon, but their shots were just wide or over the bar. By half time Barnet had already taken an unassailable 7-0 lead, but the Stones’ Girls kept their chins up and continued to play well.
Kerry Guthrie in goal had her work well and truly cut out , as many of the shots were too strong and high into the corners to stop. There was no let up for Wealdstone in the second half as Barnet came out very strongly and scored three times in quick succession.
The Stones Girls played with passion and much spirit and never let their heads drop and will learn much from the experience from playing against such a strong and older side.
