Tring Athletic lay in wait for FA Cup First Round Qualifying clash

This tie against an in-form side two levels below the Stones will certainly be no pushover – these encounters never, ever, are – and with further progress at stake and £3000 prize money on offer, both sides will want to move on to the later qualifying stages and seek Cup

glory. Stones of course had that wonderful run to the First Round Proper last season and in many ways that great day last November against Rotherham United in still very fresh in the memories of us all. We don’t want to wait another 23 years to get to the First Round Proper but we all know that much is in the hands of the draw makers!

As this piece is penned (on Bank Holiday Monday), Tring have had a great start to their league season winning all of their games and were on an unbeaten run of eight games in total. In the Cup Athletic have already disposed of Enfield 1893, 2-0, and AFC Hayes 3-2, both at their Cow Lane home ground.

Our opponents clearly have a very spirited and capable squad that seems to have the ability to come back strongly in games and they amply demonstrated that trait in their tough tie at home to AFC Hayes that play at one level higher than Tring in the pyramid.

Ryan Redford will be their danger man up front and had already bagged 8 goals by the end of August, together with Vincenzo Iannone who had grabbed a not to be sneezed at total of 6. Plenty for Stones management to think about then as we look to push on in this most exciting of competitions.
