Shot Stopper Battle

First choice keeper  Sean Thomas has been away and is set to return later this week, meaning he is short of match practice, while his understudy Sam Beagle is expected to go under the surgeon’s knife to fix a shoulder injury. That leaves  McWeeney and North, to battle it out for a permanent deal at St George’s Stadium.

Stones boss Gordon Bartlett said: “The goalkeeping situation is still very much up for grabs. Sam has hurt his shoulder and will probably need an operation while Sean has not done a great deal because he has not been here. “I am looking at the other two goalkeepers and now is the time for everyone at the club to put their hand up and say to me: ‘that is my shirt and you are not taking it away from me’

While Bartlett has signed up ex-Grimsby Town defender Wes Parker and Welsh semi-pro Sean Cronin he has released Adam Logie. “It is a shame as Adam is a great lad with a fantastic attitude,” added Bartlett. “But his performances in pre-season, by his own admission, have not been up to his or our expectations.Logie has joined Slough Town.
