Stones sign Thomas and Burrell before big kick-off

Wealdstone Manager Gordon Bartlett has moved swiftly this week to sign former QPR keeper Sean Thomas, 21, who had a loan spell at the club last season. The Stones Boss acted after it became clear that Richard Barnard, who had featured in the No 1 Jersey during pre-season, was going to be snapped up by Blue Square Premier side Weymouth and subsequently turned out for Dorset side last Saturday.

Also signing for the Stones is former player Gary Burrell, 24, who has also featured strongly during most of the Vale side’s warm up matches. Left sided midfielder Burrell has seen service with St Albans, Heybridge Swifts and Boreham Wood FC before linking up with the Stones again this summer.

Bartlett is busily preparing for the Ryman League opener with Tonbridge Angels this Saturday, 16 August at the Vale (3pm kick-off). Although Stones have a squad of 21 signed a number of key players will not available for Saturday. Midfielder David Hicks who has been influential during pre-season is suspended for 3 matches and Ben Clarke is also in the same boat. Defender Mark Boyce is also not available for this weekends clash with Tonbridge.

Forwards Ben Alexander and Stephen Hughes are currently on the treatment table and will probably face late fitness tests.
